This could be you one day!!!!!!!! |
Most people who learn to fly are of average ability. This ability, plus enthusiasm, is all that is required.
You should be able to answer this question yourself. Maybe it is for a new hobby, business reasons, career as an Airline Pilot, freedom of travel, or the sheer exhilaration of flight. You must have a "want" to do it.
Yes. You have to learn how an aircraft works. The laws relating to aircraft and principles of radio. The study is a programmed home study course in plain English and set out in a manner you will understand and enjoy. There is no minimum educational requirement. All examinations are sat at the Essendon Flying school at a time that suits you. You do not need formal lectures as your instructor will be only too pleased to answer any queries that you may have.
Generally speaking once you have learnt to fly, you can then fly all aircraft of a similar type. Just like driving different motor cars. The larger the aircraft the larger the cost . Why pay more than you have to?
Laurie Peppard - Chief Flying Instructor
No. The Essendon Flying school is the only school where you can fly every flight with Melbourne's most experienced chief flying instructor Laurie Peppard. Laurie is the owner of the school, the owner of the training aircraft and has amassed over 15,000 hours of flying time (mostly student training). He has spent over thirty years teaching private pilots and many have gone on to become Airline Pilots. You will get all this experience at no extra cost.

Student Pilots Licence
This licence permits you to fly an aircraft either "Dual" when accompanied by a qualified flying instructor, or "Solo" on your own after the instructor has authorised your flight. To obtain a student licence, all you have to do is pass a medical examination and complete an Application for Licence form.
General Flying Progress Test
For this test a pass must be obtained in law relating to aircraft radio operations, "Basic Aeronautical Knowledge" and also a flight test with your flying instructor. This test then allows you to carry passengers in the training area where you were taught.
The average flying time for this licence is 45 hours of which 5 hours is "solo" flying.
Private Pilots Licence
Before you can fly "anywhere" you must complete a course of navigation which consists of 24 hours of cross country flying around Victoria, with passes in the following theory examinations:
A flight test is also required at the end of this course.
This licence allows you to fly and be paid for your services: eg. Commercial Charter Flights. This licence is also the minimum requirement for applying for a flying job with the Airlines. To obtain a Commercial Licence you must pass:
A minimum of 150 hours total flight time is required for this licence. On top of this licence you can further add instructor and instrument ratings if you wish.
Ring the Essendon Flying School now on 9379 4102 and book in for a trial instructional flight. On this flight Laurie will give you a briefing on the aircraft flight controls, then when in the air he will demonstrate these controls to you and will then let you have a go! "The thrill of a lifetime"
Then it's up to you!!!!
